Pakistan Domestic Biogas Program (PDBP's) Special Offer Limited number of biogas plants are available for installation at a subsidy of Rs. 40,000/- per biogas plant. On the basis of “First come first serve".

Interested farmers from Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Khushab, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Nanakana, Sheikhupura and Gujranawala are requested to contact local biogas construction companies or inbox your contact number with district name.

Pakistan Domestic biogas program (PDBP) announce that PDBP has started construction of 50 & 100 cubic meter biogas plants. These plants will have the capacity to run 5 to 10 kilowatt generators. These biogas plants are being installed for R&D to evolve future strategies.

Biogas Kills Farm worker in Belchalwell

BBC Report: A worker died after being overcome by fumes while trying to fix an anaerobic bio-digester on a Dorset farm
29 year old Matthew Pitt, was working on the huge tank full of slurry and farming waste at Lowbrook Farm in Belchalwell in June 2009 when it happened.
He and fellow worker David Bartlett passed out after opening the seal on the bio-digester  roof to fix a blockage.
Mr Bartlett came to and ran for help. Mr Pitt never regained consciousness.
He was given CPR and an air ambulance took him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
'Fit and strong'
Mr Pitt was described as "fit and strong" and it was a clear summer morning on 24 June when the accident happened.
Owner Owen Yeatman, who had 420 cattle and 1,200 acres of arable land at the time, had had the German-made biodigester installed the year before.
It works by burning methane gas from rotting manure, crops or slurry to produce electricity.
But it also produces hydrogen sulphide, which smells like rotten eggs and is very poisonous.
The workers were trying to loosen up a crust that was preventing the biodigester from working properly.
Mr Pitt is thought to have breathed in the gas even though he was probably wearing a gas mask, the hearing heard.
A German engineer from the firm Biogas Nord, which built the biodigester, told the hearing it was very unusual for untrained workers to take on such dangerous tasks.
Kurt Groenke said in Germany, the work would be carried out by "qualified service personnel, not tractor drivers".
Mr Pitt, from Sturminster Newton, had become a father eight months before he died.
A joint investigation by police and the Health and Safety Executive at the time found there was "insufficient evidence to support a prosecution for manslaughter or corporate manslaughter".
The inquest continues.

The government will support farmers to choose for cheap alternative energy bear 50% of the conversion cost which will be in the range of Rs200,000 to Rs400,000 for a tube well based on technology and capacity.
A successful end of the drive would help save Rs30 billion on diesel consumption annually and help farmers irrigate their land at a low cost, a government official said. This would be the first project of its kind in the agriculture sector and would have a salutary effect on the environment in rural areas, he said.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary Dr Ijaz Munir, while confirming the plan, said his department would give a presentation to the chief minister soon for his approval. Work on the project would start next year, he added.
Munir said the project was being undertaken after a comprehensive study to save energy and utilise animal waste for productive purposes. The government would ensure transparency in the process and facilitate farmers in adopting biogas technology, he said.
Two types of technology including Frothy Drum and Fixed Dome can be used to switch over from diesel-powered tube wells to biogas. The provincial government will invite expressions of interest from interested companies, leave it to the farmers to select the company and pay directly to the technology provider.
According to documents, there are 32 million cows and buffaloes owned by small and big farmers in the province. These animals are producing 117 million tons of dung annually. If half of the total is used to produce gas, then the waste will produce 2.93 billion cubic metres of gas annually.
According to estimates, 25 to 40 cubic metres of gas is required to run a tube well. In both the technologies, 80% of energy will come from biogas and 20% from diesel.
A tube well eats up 2.25 litres of diesel per hour, but after reliance on biogas, diesel consumption will come down to 0.45 litre per hour. “This way, 288 million litres of diesel is expected to be saved every year,” the official said.
In monetary terms, savings are estimated at Rs30 billion per annum if 100,000 tube wells are switched over to biogas in the next five years.
According to agriculture census, farmers operate 1.1 million tube wells across the province for watering their crops. Of these, 110,000 are powered by electricity and 900,000 are run on diesel.
The Punjab government has earmarked Rs7 billion in the annual budget for doling out subsidy in several areas including tube wells, an official of the Finance Department said.
The Agriculture Department hopes that biogas plants installed with tube wells will help produce organic manure rich in nutrients, which will save the money spent on fertilizers.

A New Hampshire company plans to build a small biogas power plant in the Quonset Business Park that would generate electricity by burning the gas given off  anaerobic digestion this technology  has been largely untried in the United States.
NEO Energy, of Portsmouth, N.H., has plans for two similar facilities in Massachusetts, but the 500-kilowatt Quonset plant appears to be on track to be the first in operation, with a target date set for the end of next year, according to Anthony M. Calandrello, chief operating officer for the company.

The anaerobic digestion process that the Quonset facility would use is a variation of what’s already being done at many sewage treatment plants in the United States that collect methane and then burn it for heat and electricity. Although food-waste digesters are common in Europe, where there are thousands of such facilities, there are very few on this side of the Atlantic

NEO Energy is not the first company to propose tapping biogas as a renewable source of power in Rhode Island. Orbit Energy, of North Carolina, has been working on a plan to build a 3.2-megawatt facility at the Central Landfill in Johnston.

The $10-million plant at Quonset would take 20,000 tons a year of food scraps and use it to generate enough power every year for about 670 typical Rhode Island homes. The organic matter left over would be used to create annually about 1,000 tons of fertilizer. The digester would be sealed and a filtration system would control odors.

The program, which sets ceiling prices for different forms of energy, has mainly benefited wind and solar projects so far, but lawmakers recently expanded its scope to include small hydropower plants and anaerobic digestion. The ceiling price for anaerobic digestion is 18.55 cents per kilowatt hour, significantly higher than power from fossil-fuel plants but competitive with wind and solar.

 

News: WWF Nepal and AEPC MoU

Government of Nepal’s Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) and the  World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Nepal  signed a MoU to launch the second phase of the WWF Nepal Gold Standard Biogas VER Project.

A total of 20,000 biogas plants will be installed during this phase over a period of eight years ending 2020 and covering nine districts, including 81 Village Development Committees and three municipalities, in Nepal’s Terai Arc Landscape. This project falls under AEPC’s National Rural & Renewable Energy Program and seeks to minimize pressure on forests by addressing one of the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, promote sustainable management of forests, and leverage on micro-credit schemes and carbon financing for the sustainability of the project.

Biogas brings multiple benefits on the social, environmental and economic stated Dr. Govind Raj Pokharel, Executive Director at AEPC. The government needs the support of partners, ranging from the private to the non-government sectors, and this MoU is a milestone in leveraging partnerships to help us protect the environment and improve the lives of local communities.”

The Terai Arc Landscape is home to about 7 million people. With a dense population, high biodiversity and fragile ecosystems, deforestation is a major issue facing the Terai Arc. Unsustainable fuelwood extraction affects both community and government-managed forests. Biogas, as an alternate fuel, has proven to be a successful intervention in minimizing people’s dependence on forests for fuelwood. Research indicates that a biogas unit can save nearly 4.5 tons of firewood, and reduces the emission of 4.06 metric tons of CO2 equivalent annually.

The WWF Nepal Gold Standard Biogas VER Project has also helped introduce a sustainable financing scheme through carbon financing. The first phase of the project which ended in 2011 helped install 7,500 biogas plants in the Terai Arc Landscape generating upfront revenue of USD one million from the sale of carbon credits through MyClimate – trading at 13.5 Euro per ton of CO2 equivalent – in the first phase of seven years of the 21-year trading period. Such incomes have been channeled back to the local communities to install additional biogas plants for new households through micro-credit. The biogas project is a perfect example of building harmony between humans and nature, where a simple conservation idea is helping provide sustainable benefits to both”, stated Mr. Anil Manandhar, Country Representative of WWF Nepal. “We are proud to be a partner of AEPC and the local communities to help build on the success of the first phase of the Gold Standard Biogas VER Project, and look forward to ensuring the sustainability of the project
